Who is Jue in Wuthering Waves? Full Guide to Her Lore & Playstyle

If you’ve spent any amount of time wandering the sunbaked streets of Luoyang or scrolling through Wuthering Waves community builds lately, you’ve almost certainly come across the no-nonsense guard named Jue. You might’ve gotten your travel permit stamped by her at the city gate, or seen players singing praises for her low-effort, high-reward support kit, and started wondering who is Jue in Wuthering Waves. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about her: from her tragic backstory and role in the main plot to her combat strengths and whether she’s worth investing your hard-earned resources into. I’ve been running her on my main team for over six months, so I’ve got plenty of hands-on insight to share.

Who is Jue in Wuthering Waves: Core Backstory & Faction Ties

Jue is the senior adjutant of the Luoyang City Guard, and the right-hand woman to the region’s famous leader, Jiyan. She grew up in a small farming village on the outskirts of Luoyang, until a devastating Calamity wave wiped out almost the entire settlement when she was 10 years old. Jiyan found her hiding under the ruins of her family home, and took her in as a ward of the guard. Her quiet loyalty to Luoyang’s people is the driving force behind almost every decision she makes, even if it means putting herself in danger to protect civilians.

Most players don’t pick up on this at first, but she’s actually far more well-known around Luoyang than Jiyan is. Jiyan spends most of his time on high-risk missions outside the city, so Jue handles all the day-to-day operations of the guard: processing travel permits, organizing patrol routes, and mediating disputes between local merchants and travelers. If you talk to any NPC around Luoyang, almost all of them will have a kind word to say about her, even if they complain about her strict rule-following every now and then.

Jue's Role in the Wuthering Waves Main Storyline

Jue makes her first appearance very early in the Luoyang arc, right after you cross the region’s border for the first time. She’s the guard who stops you at the gate to check your travel papers, and she’s initially suspicious of the Rover, since you show up right as a string of abnormal Resonance incidents start popping up around the region. But once you help her track down a group of Resonance thieves stealing supplies from the local mining camp, she quickly warms up to you, and becomes one of your most reliable allies in the region.

Her hidden trauma tied to the Calamity of 12 years prior is the focus of her personal side quest, which unlocks once you reach friendship level 3 with her. In that quest, you help her return to the ruins of her old village to lay to rest the spirits of her family and former neighbors, who are trapped as Resonance entities after the disaster. It’s one of the most emotional side quests in the entire Luoyang arc, and it adds a ton of depth to her character that you don’t get from the main story alone.

She also plays a critical role in the final chapter of the Jiyan story arc, when Jiyan is captured by a powerful Calamity entity deep in the mountain mines. She temporarily takes over as leader of the Luoyang Guard, and helps the Rover organize a rescue mission to get Jiyan back before the entity can consume his Resonance core. Without her knowledge of the mine’s layout and the loyalty of the guard, the rescue mission would’ve failed entirely.

Jue's Playstyle and Combat Strengths for All Player Types

Outside of her story role, Jue is a 4-star Glacio polearm user, focused on support and sub-DPS roles. Best of all, you don’t have to pull for her on any limited banner: she’s permanently unlockable for free once you complete the first three chapters of the Luoyang main arc. That makes her one of the most accessible support characters in the entire game, especially for new players who don’t have a lot of 5-star characters yet.

Her kit is designed to fit almost any team comp, but she shines the most when paired with Electro or physical DPS characters. Her key strengths include:

  • Free, permanent unlock for all players: You won’t have to waste any limited event pulls or premium currency to add her to your roster, which is a huge win for free-to-play players
  • Consistent area-of-effect crowd control: Her elemental skill throws a Glacio spear that sticks to the ground, dealing continuous ice damage to all enemies in a 10-foot radius and freezing them for up to 3 seconds at max level
  • Universal team buff: Her elemental burst gives every party member a 15% Glacio damage boost and 10% physical damage resistance for 12 seconds, with a very short 15-second cooldown
  • Extremely low investment requirements: She performs perfectly well even with level 1 common artifacts and a 3-star polearm, so you don’t have to sink a ton of resources into her to make her useful
  • That doesn’t mean she’s perfect, though. Her personal damage output is pretty low, so you shouldn’t waste your best 5-star weapons or artifact sets trying to build her as a main DPS. She’s meant to fill a support slot, and she does that job extremely well for almost no cost. I’ve used her to clear every single Spiral Abyss floor since I unlocked her, even after I pulled limited 5-star Glacio supports like Yinlin.

Should You Invest in Jue for Your Endgame Roster?

This is one of the most common questions I see from new players who just unlocked her and aren’t sure where to spend their upgrade materials. The short answer is yes, almost every player will get value from upgrading her, no matter what your playstyle is. For casual players who only play a few hours a week and don’t spend money on pulls, she’s one of the most reliable support characters you can get, and she works in almost every team comp.

Her synergy with meta Electro characters is a huge perk for endgame players too. When you pair her Glacio damage with an Electro character’s elemental attacks, you trigger the Superconduct reaction, which cuts enemy physical resistance by 40% for 8 seconds. That makes her a must-have for any physical DPS team running characters like Rover, Xiangli Yao, or Jiyan.

Even if you already have a fully built 5-star Glacio support, she’s still a great backup option for Spiral Abyss runs, where you need two separate teams to clear all floors. Her short cooldowns mean she’s far more consistent for long fights than some limited 5-star supports, who have long burst cooldowns that can mess up your rotation. You won’t regret upgrading her to at least level 70, even if you only use her for event quests that require Glacio characters to complete specific challenges.

At the end of the day, who is Jue in Wuthering Waves? She’s a fiercely loyal guard with a tragic past, a free support character that works for almost every team comp, and one of the most well-written side characters in the entire game. If you haven’t played her personal side quest yet, I highly recommend making time for it the next time you log in, it adds so much context to her actions in the main story. And if you’ve been leaving her on the bench since you unlocked her, give her a test run in your next combat encounter. Chances are, you’ll end up keeping her on your main team for a long time.
