How to Get Echo Materials in Wuthering Waves: 4 Easy Farming Tips

I’ve spent close to 80 hours roaming Wuthering Waves’ open world, tweaking character builds and chasing that perfect set of echoes to make my main DPS hit harder. One of the biggest roadblocks I hit during my first month of play was figuring out how to get echo materials in Wuthering Waves without wasting half my free time on inefficient, random runs. Echoes are the core of any strong build, after all: the right materials let you unlock their hidden passive bonuses, raise their level cap, and snag that extra 30% damage boost that turns 10-minute boss slogs into 2-minute clears. I used to grind random open world mobs for hours hoping for useful drops, until I mapped out the most efficient methods that cut my farming time in half almost immediately.

How to Get Echo Materials in Wuthering Waves From Boss and Elite Mob Drops

When I first started learning how to get echo materials in Wuthering Waves, I wasted so much resin fighting bosses that didn’t drop the materials I needed for my Yanluo build. Don’t make that same mistake. Every elite mob and world boss drops specific echo materials tied to their element and type, so you never have to guess what you’ll walk away with after a fight. You can check exactly which materials a boss drops by tapping its icon on the world map before you teleport over, so you never waste resin on the wrong fight.

The only downside of world boss farming is that each run costs 30 resin, so you’ll want to make sure you’re only running bosses that drop materials you actually need. For lower-tier common and uncommon materials, elite mobs are a far better choice. You don’t need to spend resin on elite mob drops, so they’re a great way to stock up on basic upgrade materials for free, no daily gating involved. Elite mobs respawn every 12 hours, so mark the ones that drop your needed materials on your map and loop them twice a day if you’re in a hurry to level up a new set of echoes.

Clear Weekly and Event Missions for Bonus Echo Material Bundles

A lot of new players overlook mission rewards as a source of echo materials, but they’re one of the most consistent ways to get rare materials you can’t farm easily from open world mobs. The free tier of the weekly battle pass gives out dozens of echo material crates every week, including rare 4-star materials that would take you 5+ boss runs to get otherwise. The paid tier doubles those rewards, but you can get more than enough materials from the free track if you don’t want to spend extra money on the game.

Prioritize weekly missions that give echo material crates first, because you only have 7 days to complete them before they reset. I usually knock out all my weekly missions in one 2-hour co-op session with friends, so I don’t have to worry about missing out on rewards later. Limited time events are another great source, too. Most events have challenge modes that reward echo material bundles, often tailored to the event’s featured character. I usually skip event cosmetics if I don’t like them, but I never skip the echo material rewards, since they save me hours of farming later.

Run Open World Farming Routes for Common and Uncommon Echo Materials

If you need a lot of low to mid-tier echo materials to level up a full set of echoes for a new character, open world farming routes are your best bet. I’ve mapped out a route that takes me 20 minutes to run and gives me enough materials to level 4 echoes from level 1 to 40, no resin required. You can adjust it to fit whatever element of materials you need, but the base route I use for general farming is:

  • Start at the South Jinzhou teleport point, and clear the 8 thunder element elites along the riverbank for thunder echo materials
  • Teleport to the Cloudseam Summit waypoint, and run the path down to the valley to clear 6 wind elites for wind echo materials
  • Finish at the Sunken Harbor teleport, and clear the 7 hydro elites around the dock area for hydro echo materials

You can use a resonance skill that marks nearby elites on your mini-map to cut down on search time, so you don’t have to wander around looking for mobs tucked behind rocks or buildings. I usually run this route while I’m waiting for my friends to log on for co-op boss runs, so I’m not wasting any downtime. If you only need materials for one specific element, you can cut the route even shorter by only hitting elites of that type, which lets you finish in 10 minutes or less.

Exchange Excess Echoes for Materials at the Echo Shop

If you’re like me, you probably have dozens of useless 1 and 2 star echoes taking up space in your inventory that you’ll never use for any build. Instead of deleting them to free up space, you can exchange them for echo materials at the Echo Shop in every major city. The exchange rate is more than fair: 10 1-star echoes get you 5 common echo materials, and 10 2-star echoes get you 3 uncommon materials. That adds up fast if you clean out your inventory regularly.

You can also exchange 3-star echoes you don’t need for rare materials, which is a great way to get rid of duplicates that don’t fit your build. I usually clean out my inventory once a week, and I end up with enough materials to level at least one echo 10 levels, no farming required. Just make sure you don’t exchange any 3-star echoes with good substats, even if they’re not the right element for your current builds. You never know when a new character will drop that fits those stats perfectly, so it’s better to hold onto them for a couple of weeks before you trade them in.

At the end of the day, figuring out how to get echo materials in Wuthering Waves doesn’t have to be a frustrating grind if you use the right methods. Mix a couple of boss runs a week, a daily short farming route, and regular mission clears, and you’ll have more than enough materials to level up all your best echoes for every character you own. I used to spend 3 hours a day farming materials and still felt like I never had enough, but now I spend less than 30 minutes a day and have a stockpile of materials ready for any new character that drops. Try out the methods that fit your playstyle first, and adjust as you go to save as much time as possible for the parts of the game you actually enjoy.
